Summary: Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications stated on February 26 that Taiwan has proposed to South Korea that the Taiwan-South Korea air accord be revised to add an air route between Taipei Songshan Airport and Seoul’s Gimpo International Airport.

At the end of October 2010, Songshan Airport will begin offering flights to Haneda Airport (Tokyo International Airport), Seoul’s Gimpo International Airport, and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport.
This will complete a “Golden Four Corners” air route, and create a golden hub of airline connections for Northeast Asia. Business passengers and backpackers are expected to be the greatest beneficiaries.

The four airports are all located in capital cities or major commercial districts, and were once major international airports. With high demand by business travelers for time-effective travel, Haneda, Hongqiao and Gimpo airports have all begun to develop short regional air routes over the last two years to maximize their functionality as airfields in urban settings.
